Newcastle United’s striker, Callum Wilson, has expressed his satisfaction with the Tyneside club’s performance in the Champions League after completing two out of six games.
For the first time since the 2002-2003 season under Sir Bobby Robson’s management, our club has returned to the Champions League. Back in 2003, we secured a 3rd place finish with 69 points, trailing behind Manchester United and Arsenal but leading ahead of Chelsea and Liverpool.
This season, we find ourselves in the proverbial “group of death” in the Champions League, but we’ve managed to accumulate 4 points from the initial 2 games, putting us at the top of the group. Tonight, we face another challenging match against Borussia Dortmund.
Callum Wilson recently shared his thoughts on BBC Sounds’ Footballers’ Football Podcast, where he expressed his anticipation for the upcoming game. He emphasized the excitement of playing at home, where the team has shown great strength.
While acknowledging the formidable opponent, Wilson believes that securing three points will bring the team closer to achieving their objectives and defying the odds in what many have called a “group of death.” He added, “In those situations, you sink or swim, and right now, we’re swimming.”
We are undeniably still in the competition and thriving, and a victory tonight is much-needed. Callum Wilson has an impressive track record, having scored 43 goals in 90 appearances for the club.
