premier league to side in race to sign £70m-valued star

Tottenham is preparing to compete with other Premier League teams for the signing of Brentford’s striker, Ivan Toney, in the upcoming summer, according to sources from Football Insider. Chelsea, Manchester United, and Arsenal are also expected to vie for the 27-year-old’s services at the end of the 2023-24 season.

In the meantime, an informed source has informed Football Insider that Toney’s primary focus is on returning to regular football once his gambling ban expires on January 16. There may be interest in him during the mid-season transfer window, but it is thought to be a challenging deal, as Brentford is likely to demand more than £70 million for his transfer.

Sources suggest that a summer move might be the most suitable option for all parties involved. Both Tottenham and their Premier League counterparts are in search of a prolific striker, and Toney is considered a suitable candidate, given his impressive goal-scoring record in recent years. However, Toney, who is an England international, has not made any appearances in the 2023-24 season due to his eight-month ban, which began in May.

Toney resumed training with his teammates in September and has participated in non-competitive matches. Last season, he recorded 21 goals and five assists in 35 games across all competitions, including a career-best of 20 goals in the Premier League. His contract with Brentford is set to expire in June 2025.

Following Harry Kane’s departure in the summer, Heung-min Son has taken on the center-forward role at Tottenham and has scored eight Premier League goals this season. Meanwhile, Manchester United’s summer signing, Rasmus Hojlund, has yet to find the back of the net in the English top flight, leading to speculation that the Red Devils are seeking reinforcements in the striking department.

Despite significant spending in recent transfer windows, both Arsenal and Chelsea are also looking to bolster their attacking options.
