Eddie Howe is facing a significant injury crisis as Newcastle United prepares to face Bournemouth in the Premier League. Despite recent successes in the Carabao Cup and a heated clash with Arsenal, the team’s Champions League defeat to Borussia Dortmund has added to their challenges.

Jacob Murphy, the reliable winger, suffered a shoulder injury against Dortmund, returned briefly in the Arsenal game, but his shoulder issue resurfaced, requiring surgery. He is expected to return in February 2024. Dan Burn, the Blyth-born defender, injured his lower back against Arsenal and is set to be out until January 2024.

Harvey Barnes, a summer signing, has struggled with a foot injury since September and is anticipated to return in January 2024. Elliot Anderson, an academy product with a stress fracture, aims for a comeback in late December. Sven Botman, dealing with a knee injury, is likely to return in December, while Alexander Isak, facing a groin problem, is expected to be back in late November.

Callum Wilson suffered a hamstring issue against Borussia Dortmund, and his return date is currently unknown. Javier Manquillo’s return from a groin injury is also uncertain. Matt Targett, who underwent surgery for a thigh injury, is expected to be out until the new year.

Bruno Guimaraes is suspended and will miss the Bournemouth match, with an expected return on November 25th. Sandro Tonali is serving a ten-month suspension and is set to return in August 2024. The multitude of injuries and suspensions presents a significant challenge for Eddie Howe and his team in the upcoming fixtures.
