What’s the story?
According to information from Football Transfers, West Ham United is expressing interest in acquiring a right-back during the upcoming January transfer window. With no intention to extend Vladimir Coufal’s contract, West Ham is actively seeking a replacement for him. The report suggests that Nelson Semedo is being pursued as a potential successor to Coufal.
West Ham United could be able to sign Nelson Semedo… in 2024 summer
However, I doubt that West Ham United will successfully secure the services of Nelson Semedo in the January transfer window. It seems unlikely that Wolverhampton Wanderers would be willing to part with the right-back mid-season, especially considering his previous links with AS Roma. Semedo holds a crucial role at Wolves, and given their current position in danger of relegation to the Championship, selling him during this crucial phase seems improbable.
Nelson Semedo, valued at £29 million according to The Sun, has been a key player for Wolves, making 11 Premier League appearances this season. Last campaign, the Portuguese full-back featured in 31 starts and five substitute appearances in the league.
While a January move may not materialize, there could be a possibility for West Ham to secure the 30-year-old’s services in the summer of 2024. West Ham, being a significant club that clinched the UEFA Europa Conference League title last season and is participating in the UEFA Europa League this year, might be an appealing destination for Semedo.
Considering Semedo’s current weekly salary of £84,000, as per SalarySport, and his association with Wolves since 2020 when he joined from Barcelona, it is evident that he is highly regarded by the club’s fans.
