Renowned former Gators linebacker Brandon Spikes is set to take on the honorary role of Mr. Two Bits for the Florida football team’s regular-season finale against Florida State, as officially declared on Tuesday. A standout from the class of 2006, Spikes played a pivotal part in the team’s remarkable success during his four seasons in Gainesville, earning numerous individual and team accolades in the distinctive orange and blue colors. With two All-American selections, he played a crucial role in securing two SEC Championships in three appearances and contributed significantly to two national titles during his tenure at UF.
Accumulating an impressive stat line of 307 tackles, 31.5 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, one forced fumble, nine pass breakups, six interceptions, and two touchdowns, Spikes solidified his legacy as one of the premier players in Gators history at his position. Memorable moments, such as his impactful hit on Knowshon Moreno in the Florida-Georgia contest and the punt after a pick-six against LSU in Florida’s 2008 championship run, further emphasized his lasting impact on the program.

After being drafted by the New England Patriots in 2010, Spikes spent four seasons in Foxboro before a two-year stint in Buffalo. Returning to the University earlier this year to complete his degree, he has been serving as a student assistant coach on the Florida staff throughout the 2023 campaign. Notably, Spikes is set to make history as the first active coach to take on the role of Mr. Two Bits.
Following his pregame acknowledgment and the performance of this tradition, Spikes will rejoin the Florida sideline, aiming to maintain his undefeated record of 4-0 against the Seminoles, this time in a coaching capacity.
The upcoming clash between Florida (5-6; 3-5 SEC) and No. 4 Florida State (11-0; 8-0 ACC) is scheduled for a 7 p.m. ET kickoff on ESPN.
