Former Cardiff City defender Jack Simpson has publicly apologized and expressed his desire for a continued professional career after being handed a six-game ban and an £8,000 fine for racially abusing former teammate Rohan Luthra.
Simpson, who previously played for Bournemouth and Rangers, used a derogatory term during Cardiff’s pre-season tour of Portugal, where Luthra, a historic figure as the first goalkeeper from Britain’s South Asian community to appear in the EFL, was targeted.
Simpson, whose contract with Cardiff was mutually terminated in August following the incident, has been without a club since. He acknowledged his mistake during a hearing, admitting the Football Association charge against him.
In a recent statement, Simpson publicly and unreservedly apologized to Luthra and those affected by his comment, emphasizing that his actions do not align with his beliefs or character. He expressed his strong stance against racism and his commitment to learning from the mistake, hoping to return to professional football and emerge as a better person.
