According to information from Goal, both Newcastle United and Real Madrid are expressing strong interest in acquiring the services of Marcos Leonardo, a 20-year-old striker who has been delivering outstanding performances lately. With his remarkable form, the young player is anticipated to make a move to a larger club in the upcoming transfer window.
Having risen through the ranks at Santos, Leonardo joined their first team in the summer of 2020 and has consistently progressed. With a total of 164 appearances, he has made a significant impact by contributing to 65 goals. In the current 2023 season alone, he has participated in 45 matches, making a notable contribution of 25 goals, finding the net 21 times. His exceptional displays have garnered attention, sparking interest from multiple clubs.
The report suggests that Leonardo is poised for a transfer away from Brazil during the winter transfer window. AS Roma had shown interest in signing him during the summer, offering €13 million upfront and an additional €5 million in bonuses. Although Santos found the proposal appealing, they declined due to prior sales of Ângelo and Deivid Washington to Chelsea. However, they are now open to negotiations for his departure in January, quoting a transfer fee ranging from €15 million to €20 million.
Despite a €100 million release clause in his contract, Santos is willing to accept an offer around €18 million, as they had assured the player they would not impede his move during the winter. Both Real Madrid and Newcastle United have been actively scouting Leonardo, with Los Blancos seeking to bolster their attacking options and youth talent pool. Real Madrid, in particular, is keen on signing the promising young talent to enhance their squad.
On the other hand, Newcastle United has recognized a lack of depth in their forward positions, especially with recent injuries to Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson. This realization has prompted their search for a new number nine, with Leonardo emerging as a potential candidate on their radar. The 20-year-old striker is viewed as a player who could significantly contribute to the club’s success in the long term.
