The current right-back, on loan at Girona, leads La Liga by two points. Despite holding a contract with City until 2025, a prominent European club eyes a deal for him in the upcoming transfer period. Milan, as reported by Calciomercato, aims for a permanent transfer in the next summer window.
Milan’s chief scout, Geoffrey Moncada, is keen on signing Couto but acknowledges the challenge of persuading City to release him, given the potential long-term role they see for him as Kyle Walker’s successor. City acquired the 21-year-old from Coritiba FC in 2020 and sent him on loan to Girona and Braga.
In the current La Liga season, Couto has featured in 12 out of Girona’s 13 games, starting eight, showcasing versatility in defensive and attacking roles on the right side, contributing with one goal and three assists. Described as a “superb talent” by Twitter scout Jacek Kulig, Couto has displayed effectiveness both offensively and defensively.
For instance, he leads Girona in crosses into the penalty area (7) and ranks second in successful tackles (12). Milan’s interest in Couto is understandable, given his impactful performances. As his loan spell with City concludes, the summer will reveal whether City considers him a regular player or opts to capitalize on his potential.
