Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra and his wife Nikki Spoelstra have decided to divorce after seven years of marriage, as revealed in a joint statement on Nov. 29. The couple, who share three children — Santiago, Dante, and Ruby — made the announcement, describing the decision as “difficult yet amicable.” Although they did not provide specific details about the reasons for their separation, they expressed gratitude for the support received and requested privacy for their family.
Erik Spoelstra, in his 16th season as the Miami Heat coach, was recognized as the best head coach in the NBA in 2022. Nikki, formerly a Miami Heat dancer since 2005, started her podcast, “The Know with Nikki Spo,” in 2021. Despite their recent separation, both Erik and Nikki emphasized their commitment to co-parenting their children and maintaining a positive relationship.
Following the official statement, Nikki shared on an X post that she sought help for alcohol addiction in 2020, expressing her current focus on joy and gratitude. She has also posted on Instagram featuring their children, offering encouragement to those facing challenges and emphasizing self-investment during tough times.
