Crosby, 39, became a free agent at the end of a three-year, $12 million contract in 2022, and sold his Green Bay house in May. He worked out with the Rams before their game against the Packers at Lambeau Field in November, but no deal was reached to have Crosby face his former team.

Crosby was drafted in the sixth round of the 2007 NFL Draft and played in the Packers’ Super Bowl 45 victory.

Mason Crosby will reportedly be signed to Rams’ practice squad

Mason Crosby is set to make a return to the NFL, marking a significant shift in his 17-year career as he joins a team other than the Green Bay Packers. According to reports from NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the Los Angeles Rams are anticipated to add the 39-year-old kicker to their practice squad this week, with plans to promote him to the NFL roster.

Having not played since the previous season, where he achieved a 25-for-29 record on field goal attempts with the Packers, Crosby underwent workouts earlier in the current season with the Rams, New Orleans Saints, and New York Giants. However, he didn’t secure a spot with any of those teams at the time. Notably, the Rams had signed Lucas Havrisik to replace Brett Maher, but Havrisik’s recent performance, with two missed field goals and an extra point in the last two games, has prompted a reconsideration.

Despite Rams head coach Sean McVay expressing confidence in Havrisik’s abilities to address their kicking challenges, recent developments suggest a change in that stance. While Havrisik is expected to stay with the Rams for the time being, the situation could evolve based on Crosby’s performance in practice this week. It’s worth noting that Crosby can be elevated to the roster three times before requiring an official signing.

The Green Bay Packers opted to part ways with Crosby, a sixth-round pick in the 2007 draft, after the last season and selected Anders Carlson in the sixth round of the 2023 draft. Crosby holds the distinction of being the all-time leading scorer for the Packers (1,918) and was a member of their Super Bowl-winning team in 2011.
