Report: Michigan confirm key man return

Donaven McCulley Would Be WR1 At Michigan Next Yea

Michigan quickly engaged with Indiana wide receiver Donaven McCulley after he entered the transfer portal on November 28. In less than a week, the Wolverines extended an offer, which is not surprising given the upcoming departures of Roman Wilson and Cornelius Johnson. With vacant positions on the top of the depth chart, McCulley could likely secure one if he chooses Michigan.

Initially a dual-threat quarterback at Indiana, McCulley transitioned to a full-time wide receiver before the 2022 season. Over the last two seasons, he accumulated 64 catches, 844 yards, and seven touchdowns, with the majority of his production in 2023. Michigan, recognizing his potential, joined at least seven other schools, including UCLA, Penn State, Nebraska, and South Carolina, in pursuing him.

Michigan holds a competitive edge over other schools, boasting more significant opportunities and featuring two former Hoosiers, backup quarterback Jack Tuttle and tight end AJ Barner, on the roster. Barner, McCulley’s former teammate, emphasized the challenging but rewarding nature of Michigan’s football program, encouraging tough-minded players who aspire to excel and win.

For McCulley to determine if Michigan aligns with his goals, he has valuable resources in former teammates Tuttle and Barner. Despite the accompanying video being somewhat dated from McCulley’s high school days as a four-star dual-threat quarterback, it vividly illustrates his impressive athleticism, showcasing his size, fluidity, and potential impact after catching the ball.
