Agent issues one word response as West Ham said to agree £21.5m deal for new transfer

In response to reports from Brazil about a substantial transfer deal for a Brazilian defender joining West Ham, the Russian news outlet addressed the matter on their website on December 12. However, when the agent, Luis Fernando Costa, was approached for a comment, he dismissed the reports as “lies,” contradicting the rumored transfer to the east London club.

West Ham transfer news: Agent responds as £21.5m deal 'agreed'

The proposed deal, involving £21.5 million, raised eyebrows from the start as the Brazilian player, Renan, hasn’t made a significant impact in Russia, and West Ham is currently facing financial constraints. Considering the need to strengthen the team in various areas during the January transfer window, a denial of the deal isn’t surprising.

Moreover, Renan was reported not to be joining until the end of 2024, and West Ham is actively searching for central defenders, but the preference is for players who are more first-team ready than Renan, despite acknowledging his potential and talent. The team is aiming to enhance the starting lineup and overall squad depth, and given the reported price, there are likely better options available.

It remains intriguing to identify the source of the leaked story, especially when the agent categorically denies its authenticity. In contrast, other West Ham news suggests a £21.5 million deal has been confirmed for a new transfer, potentially adding complexity to the situation.
