Help pay tribute tonight to this young Newcastle United fan who has tragically lost his life

Some of you may have come across reports elsewhere concerning the unfortunate passing of Sonny Farrier, a young Newcastle United enthusiast from Walker, during the weekend before last.

The 17-year-old was in a van with his father, Lar, delivering goods in Consett when the vehicle encountered icy conditions on a steep hill, skidded, and came to a stop against a tree.

Although both Sonny and his father emerged unscathed and attempted to address the situation, another car, likely also affected by the icy conditions, collided with both Sonny and the van. Despite Lar’s efforts to administer CPR, Sonny tragically lost his life at the scene.

Sonny, a devoted Newcastle United fan and season ticket holder since the age of six, never missed a game and had attended every Champions League match this season. His friends initiated a campaign for a minute’s applause on the 18th minute in honor of what would have been his 18th birthday on Thursday.

While no official arrangements have been confirmed, family and friends are planning an independent tribute in the area where he used to sit. ‘It’s in Black and White Shop’ on Facebook posted a message, announcing the distribution of R.I.P Sonny Farrier Flags for fans to hold up in the vicinity of his seat during Wednesday night’s match. Flags can be collected from their shop on Leazes Park Road.

If you’re attending the match, be on the lookout for this tribute and consider participating in celebrating the life of this young supporter. Your involvement would mean a great deal to his friends and family. To contribute an article or share your thoughts with The Mag, you can submit content to contribute@themag.co.uk.
