In the latest episode of his podcast, Footbahlin with Ben Roethlisberger, the former Steelers quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger, expressed strong opinions about the team’s leadership this season, following their recent losses to supposedly weaker opponents—the Cardinals and Patriots, both entering the matchups with only two wins each.
Roethlisberger raised concerns about the preservation of the “Steelers tradition” and the toughness associated with the team, suggesting that these values haven’t been effectively transmitted to the new members of the roster. He emphasized the need for someone in the offensive unit to step up and remind the team of what it truly means to wear the Black and Gold.
Current Steelers defensive lineman and team captain, Cameron Heyward, responded to Roethlisberger’s remarks on the NFL Network’s Good Morning Football. Heyward acknowledged Roethlisberger’s right to an opinion but disagreed with his assessment. Heyward emphasized the Steelers’ ethos of grinding through challenges, regardless of the circumstances, and stressed the importance of returning to the core principles of winning games, maintaining a strong defense, and scoring points.
Despite the recent setbacks, the Steelers, with a 7–6 record, currently hold the sixth spot in the AFC playoff standings. They are set to face the Colts (7–6) in Indianapolis at 4:30 p.m. ET on Saturday.
