San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has positioned himself as a leading contender for the NFL MVP award, boasting impressive statistics and guiding the 49ers to an 11–3 record, tied for the best in the league.
Despite Purdy’s standout performance, not everyone is convinced of his worthiness for the title of most valuable player. Critics argue that Purdy benefits from the exceptional skills of his teammates, suggesting that almost any quarterback could lead the 49ers. The “game manager” label has been attached to Purdy since his rookie season in 2022, and 49ers tight end George Kittle expressed his frustration with this characterization during an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show.
In a lighthearted manner, Kittle addressed the label by stating, “There’s no one that manages the game quite like him,” accompanied by a laugh and sporting a 49ers Santa Claus hat. Eisen chuckled in response to Kittle’s clever comment.
Kittle went on to counter the argument that Purdy’s success is solely a result of the talent surrounding him, emphasizing that Purdy’s ability to deliver the ball to his receivers is essential for the team’s overall success. While critics may attribute Purdy’s achievements to the system, Kittle pointed out that a quarterback’s primary responsibilities are to win games and connect with playmakers—areas where Purdy has excelled. With a 16–3 regular-season record as a starter, Purdy has thrown for 5,169 yards and 42 touchdown passes with just 11 interceptions since entering the league, showcasing his proficiency in fulfilling these key quarterback roles.
