Celtics HC Explains Jrue Holiday’s Sacrifices To Help The Team
Although the statistics are commendable, they fall slightly short of his performance last season with the Milwaukee Bucks. The team underwent some changes in the offseason, and it appears that these alterations have proven successful. In a conversation with Jared Weiss post-game, head coach Joe Mazzulla discussed the diligent efforts and sacrifices made by newcomer Jrue Holiday.
Mazzulla stated, “Our team is founded on sacrifice, sometimes requiring one player to take a back seat for another to excel.” He emphasized, “What we’re discovering is that each individual must scale back a bit to enhance the overall team performance.” While Mazzulla’s approach may be unconventional, it aligns with the team composition.
The roster boasts multiple superstars, each capable of leading the team and outscoring most opponents individually. However, Mazzulla asserted that players need to moderate their output occasionally for the team to flourish and share success throughout a game.
Since joining the Celtics a few months ago, Holiday has made significant contributions, averaging 12.6 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game. His shooting percentages stand at 44.8% from the field and 39.8% from three-point range. Although these figures are impressive, they do indicate a slight decrease compared to his performance with the Milwaukee Bucks last season.
This underscores Mazzulla’s philosophy that players must temper their individual strengths to allow others to shine. The Celtics face the formidable Los Angeles Clippers next, followed by the struggling Los Angeles Lakers. The question remains: can they continue their winning streak on this road trip?
