Breaking news: Jon Scheyer relationship with Cooper Flagg

Jon Scheyer Watches Cooper Flagg Deliver Filthy Dunk

On Wednesday night, Duke basketball head coach Jon Scheyer secured his inaugural top-10 win. Less than 24 hours later, he attended the City of Palms Classic in Fort Myers, Fla., keeping a close eye on his coveted recruit, Montverde Academy’s five-star forward Cooper Flagg, who is part of the top-ranked 2024 recruiting class.

In the quarterfinal game on Thursday evening, the 6-foot-9, 200-pound Flagg lived up to expectations, contributing significantly to his team’s 95-55 victory over Archbishop Stepinac (N.Y.). In just 22 minutes of play, he showcased remarkable efficiency, scoring 20 points on 8-for-11 shooting from the field, 2-for-3 from beyond the arc, and a perfect 2-for-2 at the free-throw line. Flagg also made notable contributions with seven rebounds, four assists, one block, zero fouls, and only one turnover.

A highlight of the game occurred right in front of Coach Scheyer and his assistants, Jai Lucas and Emanuel Dildy, as Flagg seized an opportunity, called for the ball, and aggressively drove to the basket, delivering a powerful slam. While he didn’t exactly leap from the free-throw line, as claimed by the play-by-play announcer, the moment felt like it due to Flagg’s extraordinary athleticism and elongated arm reach.

Cooper Flagg, part of the top-ranked 2024 Duke basketball recruiting class, is scheduled to play again at 7 p.m. ET on Friday. If Paul VI Catholic (Va.) secures a victory over IMG Academy (Fla.) late Thursday night, the semifinal matchup for Montverde will pit Flagg against another future Blue Devil, four-star wing Darren Harris.
