The Atlanta Falcons and Green Bay Packers find themselves in very similar positions at this point in the season. Both teams sit at 6-8 on the season and need to win out plus get some outside help if they want to make the playoffs.
Today it was reported that the Falcons have signed one former Packers veteran with nearly 150 games to his name.
According to Matt Urben of The Falcons Wire:
The Atlanta Falcons have signed punter Pat O’Donnell to their practice squad and released linebacker Frank Ginda, the team announced on Friday.
Falcons punter Bradley Pinion was absent at Friday’s practice so the team is likely just being cautious if he can’t play Sunday. Stay tuned for Atlanta’s final Week 16 injury report on Friday afternoon.
O’Donnel signed a two year contract with the Packers in March of 2022. This came after spending eight years with the Chicago Bears (2014-2021). He had a relatively solid year, earning NFC Special Teams Player Of The Week In Week Three against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Over the course of his career he has recorded 616 punts, averaging 45.1 yards per punt. It will be interesting to see if the Falcons find a spot on their active roster for the 32-year-old punter.
