One of the key recruits for the Ohio State Buckeyes in 2023, wide receiver Bryson Rodgers, is set to leave the team as he enters the college football transfer portal. Despite being a four-star recruit according to Ohio State football in 2023, Rodgers did not have any playing time during his inaugural year with the team. His decision to explore the NCAA transfer portal, akin to free agency, has been reported by Hayes Fawcett of On3.
Despite his lack of field experience in his freshman season, Rodgers is expected to attract interest due to the potential he demonstrated in high school in Florida prior to joining Ohio State. Before initially committing to Ohio State football, Rodgers had received offers from various prominent teams such as the LSU Tigers, Texas Longhorns, Auburn Tigers, Michigan Wolverines, Miami Hurricanes, Washington Huskies, South Carolina Gamecocks, Florida State Seminoles, and the Iowa State Cyclones.
Even with the departure of Rodgers to the transfer portal, the Buckeyes are confident in the depth of their receiving corps. The team has promising talents joining for the 2024 season, including four-star wide receiver Jeremiah Smith and Mylan Graham. Ohio State boasts a total of 21 commits for 2024, featuring five five-stars, 12 four-stars, and three three-stars.
Looking back at the 2023 season, Ohio State finished ranked 39th in the nation for passing yards per game with 261.6 and 35th for points per contest with 30.2.
