Breaking news: Michigan wolverines target pick between elite final group

On Saturday at 1 PM Eastern, a group of Notre Dame 2024 signees is scheduled to participate in the 2024 All-American Bowl. Additionally, the Notre Dame team is anticipating positive developments during the game, as standout 2025 Chicago (Ill.) Simeon defensive end Christopher Burgess Jr. is poised to reveal his commitment. Burgess is set to announce his commitment to one of his four finalists, namely Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan, and Alabama.

Notre Dame has been proactive in prioritizing Burgess from the early stages of the recruitment process. Standing at 6-4 and weighing 240 pounds, Burgess is a highly skilled pass rusher, distinguishing himself as one of the most talented defensive linemen in the 2025 recruiting class. Currently ranked as the No. 61 overall player in the class by Rivals, Burgess is expected to climb in the rankings as he gains more experience on the field.

Here are things currently stand with Burgess’s top contenders heading into Saturday.

MICHIGAN WOLVERINES

Burgess has regarded the Wolverines positively, considering them somewhat of an unexpected contender. He attended the Ohio State versus Michigan game this season, an event noteworthy for Burgess. Despite not being perceived as the leading choice in his decision-making process, the Wolverines align with many of the qualities Burgess seeks.

NOTRE DAME FIGHTING IRISH

The Irish have been near the top of the list for Burgess for some time. Since being offered back on St. Patrick’s Day, he has visited campus four times overall. Being just 90 miles from South Bend, he is a huge target for Notre Dame. They are viewed as one of the top two contenders for the Chicago native heading into the decision, with a lot of optimism growing down the stretch.

OHIO STATE BUCKEYES

The Buckeyes are the other top contender for Burgess, who has been very fond of Ohio State in the past. Burgess has said in the past that being developed into a first round pick is very important to him. With Larry Johnson’s track record of developing first rounders, including names like Joey Bosa, Nick Bosa and Chase Young and Tamba Hali, obviously the Buckeyes check that box.

ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE

It seems unlikely that Burgess leaves the North but you would be silly to ever count out Alabama. What Nick Saban has built in Tuscaloosa is truly remarkable. They have put out some tremendous pass rushers recently, including No. 3 overall pick Will Anderson last year. Dallas Turner is also expected to go in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft as well. Obviously they are a pretty easy sell.
