The Wests Tigers have reportedly secured the signing of Solomona Faataape from the QLD Cup. At 23 years old, Faataape, who has been on the fringes of the Melbourne squad, spent the last three seasons showcasing his skills for the Brisbane Tigers in the reserve grade competition.
In the 2023 season, Faataape played a pivotal role for the QLD Cup team, featuring in 21 games and scoring an impressive 16 tries as part of the successful Tigers outfit. Beyond his try-scoring prowess, the young center also contributed ten try assists, consistently posing a threat with the ball. Faataape’s outstanding performance earned him the players’ player award for the reserve grade team.
Recent reports suggest that he has inked a deal with the Tigers, possibly in the form of a train and trial arrangement. Under this deal, Faataape could use the remainder of the pre-season to showcase his abilities, with the potential for an upgrade. However, it is more likely that he will sign a development deal, allowing him to train full-time with the Tigers while playing for the NRL club’s New South Wales Cup team.
Players under supplementary, development, or train and trial contracts may be eligible for an NRL call-up from Round 11, or earlier if injuries or suspensions necessitate the NRL club to seek dispensation from the league.
