There are still some intriguing pitchers available, and the New York Yankees, having already made a significant move this offseason by acquiring superstar outfielder Juan Soto, are clearly committed to a competitive approach in the upcoming 2024 season. With Soto set to become a free agent at the end of the season, the Yankees recognize the need to secure another frontline starter to enhance their chances of contending for a World Series title.
According to reports from USA Today Sports’ Bob Nightengale, the Yankees are actively pursuing the 2020 American League Cy Young Award winner, Shane Bieber. Nightengale suggests that the Yankees, having demonstrated their “all-in” mentality with the Soto acquisition, may be willing to make a substantial investment to secure a top-tier pitcher. While there have been discussions about other pitchers, including Dylan Cease, Jesús Luzardo of the Miami Marlins, and even Josh Hader, the focus remains on bolstering the starting rotation.
This isn’t the first time the Yankees have been linked to Bieber, and it likely won’t be the last. Recognizing the team’s need for another top starter, Bieber, despite dealing with some injuries in the previous year, stands out as a star with a 3.27 career ERA in six seasons. The 28-year-old could potentially be the perfect addition to strengthen the Yankees’ pitching staff.
