Following the Miami Dolphins’ disappointing loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, which prevented them from securing the AFC East title, a tragic incident occurred as a fan leaving the game was fatally shot, as confirmed by Miami Gardens police on Monday.
Law enforcement is currently working to identify the individual responsible for the shooting, who fled the scene after the incident. Witnesses informed CBS News in Miami that they heard at least four gunshots.
The tragic event unfolded a few blocks away from Hard Rock Stadium shortly after 11:15 p.m., immediately following the conclusion of the game. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue arrived at the scene just before midnight, but the victim had already been pronounced dead.
It seems that the victim, accompanied by his girlfriend and a few friends, was walking through traffic while leaving the area. An argument reportedly ensued between the victim, his friends, and someone in a vehicle. Subsequently, an unidentified person exited the vehicle and began shooting at the group.
Jae Jackson, who had recently left the gym, found himself near the scene when the gunfire erupted. Describing the heartbreaking moments, Jackson mentioned attempting to console the victim, holding his hand, and witnessing a fleeting moment of hope when the victim lifted his arm. However, within about 30 seconds, the situation took a tragic turn as the victim’s eyes rolled up.
As of now, the identity and age of the victim have not been disclosed. The Buffalo Bills secured a 21-14 victory over the Dolphins, clinching the division title for the fourth consecutive year. Both teams currently hold an 11-6 record.
