Former UNLV quarterback Jayden Maiava has chosen Georgia over USC as the destination for the next chapter of his college football career. The talented quarterback, with three years of eligibility remaining, announced his transfer to the Bulldogs on Monday. Maiava, standing at 6 feet 4 inches and weighing 220 pounds, is set to join the SEC powerhouse and will begin his journey in Athens.
Maiava, who had a standout redshirt freshman season at UNLV with 3,085 passing yards and 17 touchdowns, expressed his desire to compete at the highest level and contribute his skills to Georgia. He credited Barry Odom and his coaching staff for preparing him to transition to the SEC, emphasizing their competitiveness and tough mindset.
The decision between Georgia and USC was challenging for Maiava, but the culture at Georgia, characterized by its family-oriented atmosphere and close-knit coaching staff, ultimately swayed him. Maiava sees the opportunity to learn and grow under the guidance of returning starting quarterback Carson Beck, who had an impressive first year as a starter with 3,941 passing yards and 24 touchdowns.
Acknowledging the competition and opportunity for improvement, Maiava is eager to push himself at Georgia. He views the chance to work with head coach Kirby Smart and offensive coordinator Mike Bobo as crucial for his development, emphasizing the importance of learning from the best to become the best. After redshirting during his true freshman season in 2022, Maiava is excited to contribute to Georgia’s football program and continue his promising career.
