A familiar face is making a comeback to LSU. According to Shea Dixon, the Tigers’ defensive backs coach, Corey Raymond, is returning to Baton Rouge. Raymond, often regarded as the Godfather of DBU, previously coached Tiger defensive backs from 2012 to 2021. During his tenure, he coached seven First-Team All-Americans and produced 18 draft picks, including four first-rounders.

Raymond’s impact extended beyond developing future professionals; he also successfully recruited top defensive back talent from high school ranks. This recruitment prowess has been notably absent since his departure. LSU has not secured a five-star cornerback or five-star safety since Raymond was not retained by Brian Kelly.
Following his departure from LSU, Raymond spent the last two seasons with the Florida Gators. However, he was let go by Billy Napier in November. Both Raymond and Blake Baker were not retained by Brian Kelly when he assumed the coaching role in 2021. Interestingly, both coaches are now back with the LSU coaching staff.
