The Wests Tigers have sealed agreements with two promising young players as part of their strategic focus on building for the future. Among these talents is Nehemiah Wuatai-Davis, an 18-year-old front-rower from Mackay, who has committed to a two-year contract with the Tigers.
Having started his rugby league journey at the age of seven and later relocating from Townsville to Mackay at ten, Wuatai-Davis expressed his excitement about realizing his dream and joining the Tigers. He shared his feelings, stating, “I’m thrilled to be moving forward with my dream and training with the Tigers; it’s a significant achievement for me. I was at a loss for words, genuinely happy, and a bit nervous at the same time,” as reported by Daily Mercury.
His former coach, Scott Thorburn, from the Mackay Magpies, also commented on Wuatai-Davis signing with the Wests Tigers. Thorburn praised the young player’s performance, noting that despite his age, Wuatai-Davis demonstrated resilience and toughness in the front row. Thorburn emphasized the importance of attitude and preparation in training, highlighting Wuatai-Davis’s dedication and ability to handle physical contact at such a young age.
Additionally, the Wests Tigers have secured another promising talent, Cooper Young, on a three-year contract, ensuring his commitment until at least the end of 2026.
