The Cleveland Browns are actively exploring options for their new offensive coordinator, maintaining a broad search approach this week. Following discussions with former NFL quarterback and Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey, as well as Seattle Seahawks offensive line coach Andy Dickerson, the Browns are now scheduling an interview with Jerrod Johnson, the quarterback coach for the Houston Texans. This information comes from ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, who broke the news.
Having recently completed his inaugural season with the Texans in 2023, Johnson contributed to the team’s playoff success with rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud, who achieved impressive stats of 4,108 passing yards, 23 touchdowns, and only five interceptions.
Johnson’s coaching journey includes stints as a Bill Walsh Coaching Fellow for the San Francisco 49ers in 2017 and the Indianapolis Colts in 2019. He then took on the role of offensive quality control coach for the Colts in 2020 and 2021 before joining the Minnesota Vikings in 2022 as the assistant quarterback coach.
Interestingly, Johnson’s connection with Houston’s head coach, DeMeco Ryans, dates back to their time together with the 49ers, where Ryans served as a defensive quality control coach.
In addition to the Browns’ interest, the New Orleans Saints have reportedly expressed their desire to interview Jerrod Johnson for a coaching position.
