Breaking news: Falcons currently in the process of finalizing contractual agreements to bring back Dak Prescott

In the latest offseason developments, there’s a growing sentiment urging Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott to explore a trade to the Atlanta Falcons. Despite Prescott’s stellar performance in his recent career-best season, suggestions are emerging that he should consider leaving Dallas for Atlanta.

On the January 24 episode of Get Up, former Indianapolis Colts head coach and ESPN analyst Jeff Saturday outlined the reasons behind the recommendation for Prescott to seek a trade to the Falcons. Host Mike Greenberg emphasized Prescott’s unparalleled leverage due to his contract, setting the stage for Saturday’s proposition.

“The Atlanta Falcons. Present those papers today,” Saturday advised. “There’s ample talent there. Ideally, with Bill Belichick or another transformative coach, they could turn things around. The Falcons boast a solid defense, offensive weapons, and bringing in a player of Prescott’s caliber would undoubtedly command a positive energy shift.”

Prescott’s contract grants him significant control over any potential trades, and he is protected from being franchise tagged. While the Cowboys secured him with a substantial deal for a reason, there’s speculation that this decision could pose challenges for the team in the future.

Prescott Entering Final Year of Contract

Despite Dak Prescott’s initial cap hits being relatively manageable at $27 million or less in the first three years of his current contract, there’s a notable spike to a $59.5 million hit in 2024. While this figure appears staggering, it’s likely to be a temporary situation.

The Cowboys have shown interest in extending Prescott’s contract, a move that would enable them to distribute the financial burden more evenly and make the cap hit more sustainable. The advantage here is that a new extension can involve spreading out guaranteed money over the contract’s duration.

However, if the Cowboys fail to secure a contract extension for Prescott during this offseason, they find themselves in a challenging position. The team is already projected to be $11 million over the cap as things stand. Managing the roster under such constraints becomes complicated, and Prescott would then have the option to explore free agency in the subsequent offseason.

Throughout the season, the Cowboys have been consistently positive in their stance on Dak Prescott. His impressive rebound from a challenging season has contributed to this positive outlook. Whether this translates into a contract extension will undoubtedly be a significant point of discussion during the offseason.

Cowboys QB’s Brother Tells Him to Leave Dallas

In addition to Jeff Saturday, numerous voices have advised Dak Prescott to consider requesting a trade. Notably, Prescott’s brother, Tad, has weighed in on the matter, adding an intriguing perspective to the discussion.

As reported by Heavy’s Jonathan Adams on January 20, Tad Prescott appears to be weary of the ongoing drama. Despite expressing a desire for Dak to leave Dallas, he acknowledges that Dak himself prefers to stay with the Cowboys.

In a statement on X, Tad shared, “Cowboy fans why continue to DM me TRUST ME, if I could get @dak to leave Dallas I would. I too want him out of Dallas. The city and organization have been great to he and our family, but done with drama and the so-called fans, but he loves this team, and wants to bring it rings.”

As of the current writing, Dak Prescott has not publicly commented on his brother’s perspective. The situation adds an interesting layer to the ongoing speculation about Prescott’s future with the Cowboys.
