Breaking news: Washington Commanders on NFL Draft after Puts Jayden Daniels Over Drake Maye

The Washington Commanders hold the second overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, and despite having Sam Howell as their current quarterback, the prudent move for the team seems to be bringing in a young and skilled QB who could potentially compete for a starting position.

The dilemma for the Commanders lies in the fact that they have several quarterback options at the No. 2 spot. Even though Caleb Williams is expected to be selected first overall, Washington still has the choice between LSU’s Jayden Daniels and North Carolina’s Drake Maye.

According to NFL Draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr., the preferred choice should be Daniels. While Maye is undoubtedly talented, his inconsistent performance towards the end of the season gives Daniels the edge. Additionally, Daniels seems to be a better fit considering the offensive weapons already present in the Commanders’ roster.

“The Heisman Trophy winner showed significant improvement in 2023, throwing 40 touchdown passes with just four interceptions against a challenging SEC schedule. While the decision between Daniels and Maye is close, Daniels would be an excellent fit for the young playmakers on Washington’s offense,” stated Kiper via ESPN.

Given Jayden Daniels’ remarkable progress in the past season and his athletic prowess, it would be logical for the Washington Commanders to choose him over Drake Maye. Daniels’ athleticism could provide a significant advantage over other quarterbacks in the professional scene.

However, the Commanders’ actions remain uncertain, as they have recently hired a new general manager and are still without a head coach. As Kiper pointed out, the lack of clarity in the front office makes it challenging to predict their course of action. For now, fans must be patient and await the decisions of the team’s leadership.

Why the Washington Commanders Should Pick Jayden Daniels

While Jayden Daniels’ slender physique raises concerns, it is a potential area for improvement, especially in a professional setting where there is a greater emphasis on strength, conditioning, and overall health.

Daniels possesses physical attributes that make him an ideal quarterback with a tremendous upside. His speed and quick bursts on the field, coupled with exceptional pocket management, position him as a compelling dual-threat quarterback in the NFL.

Furthermore, Daniels’ deep-ball accuracy adds to his repertoire, suggesting he has the qualities of a franchise quarterback. Over his five-year collegiate career, he has amassed impressive statistics, totaling 12,750 passing yards and 89 touchdowns. Additionally, he has showcased his rushing ability, accumulating 3,304 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground.

Considering this extensive body of work, the Washington Commanders would be acquiring a battle-tested and pro-ready quarterback in Jayden Daniels.
