A crucial member of the Auburn Tigers’ staff has departed, adding to the recent changes in the coaching lineup. Trovon Reed, who held the role of director of football and recruiting relations, has left to join Gus Malzahn and the UCF Knights. Reed will transition to an on-field position as the cornerbacks coach for the Knights.

Only a month ago, Reed expressed optimism about Auburn’s future, stating, “It’s a new day for Auburn. We’re not afraid. We’re going to compete. And we’re also gonna compete on that field. We coming. Not just on the field, we’re coming in recruiting, and everything else that comes with it.”

While there were possibilities for Reed to secure an on-field position with Auburn this offseason, he has opted to join UCF. Reed, who had an eight-season stint in the NFL with five different teams, also played in the AAF for one season and the XFL for another.

In 2021, Reed initially joined Auburn as a player relations coordinator and was later promoted to the director of football and player relations. Auburn has recently faced coaching staff changes, losing safeties coach Zac Etheridge to the Houston Cougars and defensive coordinator Ron Roberts to the Florida Gators. The newly appointed staffer, Charles Kelly, is expected to take on both roles, leveraging his reputation as one of the country’s top recruiters during his time with the Alabama Crimson Tide.

The current search for a co-defensive coordinator to complement Kelly leaves the final composition of Auburn’s coaching staff uncertain.
