With the trade deadline approaching, the NBA champions are potentially interested in reacquiring a player who averages five points per game.
According to Kevin O’Connor’s recent article on The Ringer, the Denver Nuggets are contemplating a trade to bring back seasoned guard Monte Morris from the Detroit Pistons to bolster their bench. O’Connor highlights Denver’s need for a reliable backup player.
Though not a standout name, the 28-year-old Morris remains a beloved figure in Denver, having initially developed with the team during his first five seasons. While Morris wasn’t part of Denver’s championship-winning squad last season, having been traded in 2022 for Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, he contributed solidly, averaging 10.5 points and 3.7 assists per game during his tenure with the Nuggets. Notably, he also stepped up as a starter when Jamal Murray was sidelined with injury in the 2021-22 season and is well-versed in Coach Michael Malone’s system.
Despite a diminished role with the struggling Pistons this season, where he’s averaging just 4.5 points per game, Morris still possesses playmaking ability and could provide better direction for Denver’s second unit compared to the scoring-oriented Reggie Jackson, who currently backs up Murray. With Morris set to become a free agent after the season, the Nuggets might find it worthwhile to reunite with him, especially given his history of delivering in clutch moments.
