Kent Austin, who transitioned from his prior role as an analyst to become Auburn’s quarterbacks coach, is set to enjoy a $150,000 salary increase under the terms of his new contract, as revealed in documents obtained by AL.com through a public records request.
His earnings for the 2024 season will amount to $400,000. The freshly inked agreement took effect on January 15 and will run through January 27, 2027.
Under his previous contract, which lapsed on January 31, Austin received a base salary of $250,000 with no additional compensation for endorsements or personal appearances. However, the new deal includes $75,000 allocated for endorsements and another $75,000 for personal appearances, making up the total $150,000 raise.
Remaining at Auburn entails further salary bumps for Austin, with a $200,000 increase slated for February 1, 2025, and another substantial raise of $350,000 scheduled for February 1, 2026, potentially bringing his total contract earnings for the 2026 season to $950,000.
The contract also stipulates a fully guaranteed buyout clause covering the remainder of his earnings throughout the contract term.
Should Austin decide to depart from Auburn, he would owe the university $375,000 if he leaves before December 20, 2024, $250,000 before December 20, 2025, or $125,000 before December 20, 2026. However, accepting a position as a head coach, play-calling coordinator, or any role in the NFL would absolve him of any financial obligations to Auburn, as outlined in the contract terms.
Austin is entitled to the same bonus structure as other assistants, as per previously acquired contracts documented by AL.com.
Previously, Austin served as co-offensive coordinator under head coach Hugh Freeze at Liberty from 2019 to 2022, and he also held the position of offensive coordinator at Ole Miss from 2008 to 2009, where he worked alongside Auburn offensive coordinator Derrick Nix.
