Chris Henry Jr., who previously committed to Ohio State, revealed on Monday that he will be transferring to Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California. After a successful season at Withrow High School in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he amassed impressive statistics with 71 receptions for 1,127 yards and 10 touchdowns as a sophomore, Henry Jr. is embarking on a new chapter.
Expressing gratitude for the opportunity to compete in his father’s former city and acknowledging the support from the local community over the past 2.5 years, Henry Jr. conveyed his fondness for Cincinnati. He highlighted the significance of the city to himself and his siblings.
Having committed to Ohio State last summer, Henry Jr. joins a lineage of talented wide receivers to don the Buckeyes’ jersey. Ranked as the seventh overall player in the 2026 recruiting class by 247Sports, he now looks forward to playing for Mater Dei High School, a football powerhouse in Southern California, for his final two seasons before transitioning to Columbus for college.
Tragically, Henry Jr.’s father passed away in 2009 after a fatal incident during a domestic dispute. Following this loss, former West Virginia teammate Adam “Pacman” Jones provided support to Henry Jr. and his siblings, assisting him through the recruiting process.
Despite interest from prominent college football programs such as USC, Michigan, Notre Dame, and Tennessee, as well as West Virginia, the school where his father made his mark as an NFL Draft pick, Henry Jr. ultimately chose Ohio State as his collegiate destination.
