Steve McMichael, an iconic figure in Chicago Bears history, is making strides in his recovery after being hospitalized with a urinary tract infection, sepsis, and pneumonia amidst his battle with ALS, his family has announced.
McMichael, aged 66, renowned for his role as a defensive tackle on the celebrated 1985 Super Bowl-winning Chicago Bears team, was admitted to intensive care on Thursday night.
Fondly nicknamed Mongo, McMichael’s condition is showing signs of improvement following antibiotic treatment for the UTI, as reported by Jarrett Payton, the son of the legendary Chicago Bears running back Walter Payton. Additionally, McMichael’s family has disclosed that he is responding positively to treatment and undergoing a procedure to alleviate fluid buildup in his lungs.
In a statement conveyed by NBC’s Mike Berman, the family expressed gratitude for the antibiotics’ efficacy in addressing McMichael’s UTI and provided updates on his progress.
