It’s widely known that the Chicago Bears are likely to select a quarterback as their top pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Despite Justin Fields showing promising moments during the 2023 season, it wasn’t compelling enough to deter the Bears from considering a replacement through the draft.
Although it’s widely believed that they’ll opt for USC standout Caleb Williams with the first pick, the Bears are responsibly evaluating other quarterback prospects in the class to confirm if Williams is indeed the ideal choice for their team.
Chicago Bears interview NC Central QB Davius Richard as draft process gains steam
According to Erik Lambert of Sports Mockery, GM Ryan Poles and his scouting team have taken an interest in Davius Richard from NC Central following his impressive performance at the Hula Bowl.
Richard may not be a household name given his background at an Historically Black College or University (HBCU), which typically receives less attention compared to teams in power conferences. However, his standout performance at the bowl has caught the Chicago Bears’ attention.
Standing at 6’2″ and weighing 220 lbs, Richard possesses the size typically seen in NFL players. He’s also a notable athlete, showcasing his dual-threat abilities by rushing for 630 yards and 18 touchdowns last season. Despite his rushing prowess, Richard shouldn’t be underestimated as solely a rush-first player. He demonstrates significant arm strength, delivering the ball with velocity and precision, evident from his 21 touchdowns and minimal four interceptions as a senior.
While Caleb Williams remains the likely choice for the Bears’ quarterback position, it’s prudent for them to explore all options. Considering Richard’s potential, the Bears might consider selecting him with a Day 2 or Day 3 pick in the NFL Draft as a contingency plan or to add depth to their quarterback roster.
