After the All-Star Game, Denver key man conveyed his lack of desire to depart Denver

The close friendship between Nikola Jokic and Luka Doncic was spotlighted during the NBA All-Star Weekend. Away from the court, they share a strong connection, evident from their time together representing the Western Conference All-Star team in Indianapolis.

Denver Nugget Nikola Jokić: A profile.

Speculation arises regarding the possibility of them playing together for the same NBA team in the future. Jokic hinted at being open to the idea when asked. However, he emphasized his contentment with Denver, stating his reluctance to leave the team. He jokingly added that if Doncic ever wanted a change from Dallas, he could consider joining him in Denver.

Jokic’s commitment to Denver suggests it’s unlikely he’ll depart from the team. Similarly, if Doncic were to leave Dallas, many NBA teams would undoubtedly pursue him for his talents.

Presently, the Dallas Mavericks hold a respectable record of 32-23, placing them seventh in the Western Conference. However, concerns linger about Doncic’s supporting cast, particularly with Kyrie Irving’s limited participation in only 33 out of 55 games this season. Despite a mid-season trade for P.J. Washington, doubts remain about the team’s ability to contend in the highly competitive conference.

Doncic’s substantial five-year, $215 million extension signed with the Mavericks in September 2022 ensures his presence for the foreseeable future. Nonetheless, the fluid nature of NBA transactions implies that if Doncic desires a change, he will likely have a significant say in his next destination.
