The Rams, like several other teams, had to reorganize their coaching staff this offseason. Unlike firing anyone, they’re making changes because coaches moved on to bigger roles. Head coach Sean McVay, as usual, is bringing in a new staff that he believes will thrive under his guidance.
Regarding the offense, we already knew about the additions of quarterbacks coach Dave Ragone, senior offensive assistant Jerry Schuplinski, and offensive assistant and pass game specialist Nate Scheelhaase.
However, it’s newly revealed that Nick Caley, previously the tight ends coach, now holds the title of pass-game coordinator, filling the void left by Zac Robinson. Additionally, Rob Calabrese joins as a new offensive assistant, taking over from K.J. Black and Nick Jones.
The defensive side is undergoing significant changes, mainly due to the departure of former defensive coordinator Raheem Morris. Giff Smith replaces Eric Henderson as defensive line coach and run game coordinator, while Sean Desai comes in as a senior defensive assistant. Greg Williams is hired as the inside linebackers coach, Chris Beake’s role shifts to safeties coach, and AC Carter remains assistant defensive line coach. The roles of Joe Coniglio, Aubrey Pleasant, and Mike Harris stay unchanged.
In special teams, Chili Davis replaces Jeremy Springer as assistant special teams coach, with John Streicher joining as game management coordinator. Streicher previously worked with the Titans.
McVay is accustomed to adjusting his staff, having bounced back from a tough 2022 season to reach the playoffs again. With this new lineup, he aims to return to championship contention, following their 2021 triumph.
