The Los Angeles Rams have extended an exclusive rights tender to running back Ronnie Rivers, who qualifies as an exclusive rights free agent due to having played fewer than three seasons in the NFL with an expired contract. As per this tender, if the Rams offer him a one-year contract at the league minimum, Rivers cannot negotiate with other teams.
Rivers, who ranked third on the team in rushing yards last season, has been with the Rams for two seasons, accumulating 150 rushing yards on 41 carries and 51 receiving yards on 10 receptions. With this tender, he is now poised to potentially serve as the backup running back to Pro Bowler Kyren Williams, who had an impressive season last year.
The Rams, who ranked 11th in rushing as a team last season, aim to further strengthen their ground game, and Rivers has demonstrated his value as a complementary back to Williams. Additionally, with second-year back Zach Evans also under contract, the team’s running back position isn’t a pressing concern heading into the draft and free agency.
