Breaking news: Baltimore Orioles confirm another signing Deal with American League Powerhouse worth $2 million payout

In their quest to strengthen their pitching roster, the Baltimore Orioles have inked a minor league contract with former All-Star Julio Teheran.

According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, Teheran’s deal involves a camp invite to the Major League Baseball (MLB) camp, with a potential $2 million payout in the majors, along with a $100,000 signing bonus and opt-out clause.

Teheran boasts experience from 12 seasons in the majors with stints at the Braves, Los Angeles Angels, Detroit Tigers, and Milwaukee Brewers. After a limited appearance in the 2021-2022 seasons, he made a comeback in 2023, featuring in 11 starts for Milwaukee.

At 33 years old, Teheran concluded last season with a 4.40 ERA, going 3-5. Throughout his career, he holds a record of 81 wins and 82 losses with a 3.83 ERA. Notably, he earned All-Star honors in 2014 and 2016 with the Braves and has secured five seasons with double-digit wins.

The Orioles’ decision to sign Teheran revolves around the health status of their pitching staff. With John Means and Kyle Bradish likely starting the season on the injured list, the Orioles, who won 101 games last season and have aspirations for the World Series, are wary of potential setbacks due to injuries. In addition to acquiring Corbin Burnes in an offseason trade with the Brewers, they are now adding Teheran, who could vie for a starting role or serve as a bullpen option.

As of now, the Orioles anticipate having Burnes, Grayson Rodriguez, and Dean Kremer as surefire starters following the injuries.
