The Falcons have recently extended contracts to three exclusive rights free agents. The initial pair included Liam McCullough, a long snapper, and Ryan Neuzil, who plays on the interior line. However, the third player, undrafted free agent Nate Landman, played a significantly more impactful role, making him the standout of the 2023 season.

The Colorado recruit, Nate Landman, joined the Falcons in 2022 as an undrafted player after going unnoticed in the draft. However, during his rookie season, he had limited impact, registering only one tackle and participating in seven games, mainly contributing on special teams.
Yet, in 2023, due to injuries, Landman seized the opportunity and showcased his abilities remarkably. He stepped into a starting role alongside Kaden Elliss when Troy Andersen got sidelined for the season during the Falcons’ Week 3 loss to the Lions.
Throughout the season, Landman started in 14 games, accumulating impressive stats: 110 tackles, three pass breakups, three forced fumbles, and two sacks, marking a breakout year for him. It was no surprise that the Falcons were keen on retaining him.
Now, under the direction of defensive coordinator Jimmy Lake, the linebacker unit boasts three capable players in Elliss, Landman, and Andersen. While Atlanta invested a second-round pick in Andersen from Montana, they are eager for him to fulfill his potential.
In the upcoming season, depending on the defensive scheme the Falcons adopt, there might be a competition between Andersen and Landman for the starting position alongside Elliss. Despite Landman’s standout performance in his second year, he showed some vulnerability in coverage. Therefore, if Andersen proves to be more reliable in that aspect, he might earn the starting spot.
Alternatively, if the Falcons opt for frequent use of three off-ball linebackers, all three players will likely receive substantial playing time. At worst, the Falcons have a backup with starting potential on their roster.
