Two decades onward, the limelight now shifts to Peterson’s younger sibling. Nelson Peterson Jr., a 6-foot-3 quarterback from Forney, Texas, and the brother of the former highly acclaimed running back, announced via social media his participation in the Sooners’ upcoming “Future Freaks” recruitment event this Saturday.

Peterson Jr. will be among several recruits from the 2026, 2027, and 2028 classes attending the special weekend, alongside promising talents such as Dequane Prevo, Jordan Davis, Zaden Krempin, Drew Evers, Christopher Stewart, Antayvious Ellis, and Jakore Smith.

All the previously mentioned players have received offers from the Sooners.

Currently, Peterson Jr. holds a Division I offer from Texas Tech, which he received in early February. Following an impressive sophomore season with 25 total touchdowns, the standout player for the Jackrabbits could see increased interest in his recruitment as he enters his junior year.

If Peterson Jr. impresses Seth Littrell and Brent Venables during Saturday’s event, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the skilled quarterback receive an offer from the Sooner coaching staff.

Up to now, Littrell and his team have extended offers to six quarterbacks in the 2026 recruiting class. Legend Bey from Mesquite, Texas, was the first sophomore QB to receive an offer from OU, with Jared Curtis, Faizon Brandon, Noah Grubbs, Dereon Coleman, and Jaden O’Neal all receiving attention from Littrell over the past few months.

With 4-star recruit Kevin Sperry already committed to the Sooners’ 2025 recruiting class, Oklahoma can now focus on securing a talented quarterback to lead their 2026 group.
