The Minnesota Vikings bolstered their tight end roster by extending Johnny Mundt’s contract, providing valuable depth in light of T.J. Hockenson’s ongoing recovery from knee surgery. Mundt, who was on the brink of unrestricted free agency, has been with the team for the past two seasons following a five-year tenure with the Los Angeles Rams. He had a productive season last year, registering a career-best 172 receiving yards on 17 catches across all 17 games.
In addition to Mundt’s extension, the Vikings recently secured tight end Nick Muse, who was slated to become an exclusive rights free agent. Furthermore, Josh Oliver remains part of the roster, having served as the primary blocking tight end behind Hockenson, who sustained significant knee injuries during a game against Detroit on December 24.
Hockenson underwent reconstructive surgery on January 29 and is anticipated to miss the start of the upcoming regular season as he continues his rehabilitation.
