According to a report from NFL insider Ian Rapoport on Saturday, PJ Locke, formerly of the Texas Longhorns, unveiled his next move in his NFL career. It was disclosed that Locke and the Broncos reached a two-year agreement worth seven million dollars guaranteed, with the potential to earn up to nine million. Locke joined the Broncos in 2019 after a brief stint with the Pittsburgh Steelers as an undrafted free agent.
Since his rookie year with the Broncos, Locke has remained with the team and showcased significant productivity. Initially cut and relegated to the practice squad, Locke was promoted ahead of the Broncos’ Week 1 game in 2019. Although he returned to the practice squad briefly, he was signed to the active roster in 2020 and has since become a consistent presence. Much of his success stems from his impact on special teams. With both starting safeties, Justin Simmons and Kareem Jackson, no longer on the team, Locke stands a chance to become the full-time starter for the Broncos in 2024. Throughout his career thus far, he has amassed 84 total tackles, three sacks, four forced fumbles, six pass deflections, and one interception, notably sealing a game against the Green Bay Packers in the recent season.
During his tenure at Texas, Locke exhibited a high-energy style likened to being propelled like a cannonball, and he has evidently carved out his niche in the NFL. Expectations are high for him to excel in 2024.
