The Buffalo Bills are acutely aware of the formidable challenge of toppling the Kansas City Chiefs from their dominant position in the AFC. Recent seasons have underscored their offensive prowess within the AFC East, yet they consistently stumble when confronted with elite opponents like the Chiefs.
In a bid to change this narrative in 2024, Sean McDermott and Brandon Beane have been diligently focused on bolstering their defensive roster, recognizing it as crucial to their success.
Their proactive efforts include securing Jordan Poyer on a two-year extension, ensuring his presence until 2026. Additionally, their latest move in free agency involves retaining another pivotal asset in their defensive lineup.
Buffalo Bills keep DaQuan Jones for two more years
Buffalo Rumblings’ Matt Byham has reported that the Bills and DaQuan Jones have reached a new agreement, extending his tenure with the team until he reaches the age of 34.
Jones has consistently been a vital presence on the Buffalo Bills’ defensive line, frequently matched up against the toughest offensive lines in the NFL whenever he takes the field. Despite his 2023 season being hampered by injuries, his impressive performance, including eight solo tackles and 2.5 sacks in just seven starts, has solidified his place with the team for the foreseeable future.
Can the Buffalo Bills win the Super Bowl this time?
Although Jones saw limited playing time with the Bills, his contribution cannot be overlooked within their efficient defensive unit, which has a significant impact on opposing offenses. Remarkably, in 2023, despite blitzing the quarterback only 23.5% of the time, the Bills managed to sack the opposing QB 54 times.
Furthermore, the Bills’ defense as a whole proved highly effective, holding opposing offenses in check. Across 17 games, they allowed just 5222 multipurpose yards and 32 total touchdowns. If the Bills can address their postseason shortcomings, there’s every reason to believe they could emerge as the clear favorites to win Super Bowl LIX.
