Breaking news: Kendrick Bourne’s latest deal with the Patriots features an unconventional arrangement

The Patriots recently extended Kendrick Bourne’s contract, which may seem generous considering his recent knee surgery. However, the terms require Bourne to deliver on-field performance to earn most of the money.

The deal spans three years and potentially reaches $33 million, with a base value of $19.5 million. Only $5.5 million is guaranteed upfront.

Reports suggest Bourne will receive $5.5 million in the upcoming season, regardless of performance. An additional $2.5 million for 2025 becomes guaranteed if he achieves at least 800 receiving yards in 2024. Furthermore, Bourne has the opportunity to earn $5 million in incentives for 2024 and $4 million for both 2025 and 2026.

Patriots and Kendrick Bourne agree to new 3-year deal

This structure is highly favorable to the Patriots, presenting a more appealing scenario than a straightforward 3-year, $33 million contract, especially considering Bourne’s modest receiving yards in recent seasons.

Previously, Bourne signed a 3-year, $15 million deal with the Patriots in 2021. He made significant contributions in his first season, aiding rookie Mac Jones’s Pro Bowl appearance. However, Bourne faced challenges in 2022 before his injury.
