A former defensive tackle for the Pittsburgh Steelers is set to join another AFC team after agreeing to a new contract as a free agent this week. Armon Watts, who played for the Steelers last season, has reportedly signed with the New England Patriots, as per a report by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. The financial details of the contract have not been revealed yet.
Watts, who has six years of experience in the NFL, started his career with the Minnesota Vikings before signing short-term deals with the Chicago Bears and Steelers.
The #Patriots are signing veteran DT Armon Watts, per his agents @davidcanter @NessMugrabi @IanGrutman of @gsefootball. Watts has played in 72 career games (22 starts), most recently with Pittsburgh.

Throughout his career, he has accumulated 140 tackles and 8.5 sacks in 72 games, making 22 starts. Although he played in 15 games for the Steelers last season, he didn’t start any of them.
With Cameron Heyward getting older and Montravious Adams still unsigned, the Steelers are lacking depth on the defensive line. While they have rookie Keeanu Benton on a multi-year contract, it’s likely they’ll need to bolster their defensive front further during the offseason.
