Less than a day after re-signing Josh Uche, the New England Patriots have secured another member of their edge linebacker unit for the foreseeable future. Anfernee Jennings won’t be hitting free agency as he’s agreed to a fresh three-year deal.
Reported by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the contract comes with a base value of $12 million, with the potential to reach up to $24 million through performance incentives.
Originally drafted by the Patriots in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Jennings had a subdued start to his professional journey, with limited playing time in his rookie year and missing his second season entirely due to injury.
However, from his third year onwards, he emerged as a significant contributor both defensively and on special teams. His performance peaked in 2023, starting in the final 13 games of the season and maintaining at least a 55 percent playing time share throughout. This success paved the way for his return to the Patriots on this new contract.
The 49ers’ need for another last second miracle deserves a deep rewind
The impactful run-stopper wrapped up the season with 65 tackles, a forced fumble, and an impressive 21 quarterback pressures, along with 1.5 sacks. Additionally, he tied for the league lead with 13 tackles for loss against the run.
Overall, Jennings boasts a total of 45 games in his career so far, and his newly inked contract guarantees that this number will only increase in the years ahead.
