Heading into the 2024 free agency period, the Los Angeles Rams had a significant gap to fill at the cornerback position due to the departure of Ahkello Witherspoon, who left for free agency.
However, the Rams were well-equipped with over $40 million in cap space, allowing them to address this need promptly. Recent reports indicate that on Tuesday, the Rams reached an agreement on a three-year contract worth $22.5 million with Darious Williams, a standout cornerback who previously contributed to the team’s success by helping them secure the Super Bowl LVI title. This signing has now been officially confirmed by the Rams, as announced on Wednesday afternoon.
Reports indicate that Williams has the potential to earn up to $30 million. He began his NFL journey as an undrafted free agent with the Ravens and joined the Rams early in the 2018 season after a brief stint in Baltimore. Over the next four seasons with the Rams, Williams appeared in 43 games, starting 26, and compiled impressive stats including 130 tackles, five tackles for loss, six interceptions, and 27 pass deflections. Following the expiration of his contract, Williams entered free agency and signed a three-year, $30 million deal with the Jaguars in 2022, starting 29 of 34 games during his tenure with them.
During his time with the Jaguars, he showcased his abilities with four interceptions, including a memorable 61-yard interception return for a touchdown against the Atlanta Falcons. Williams notably excelled in 2023, earning an impressive 85.3 grade per Pro Football Focus (PFF), tying for fifth in the league at his position. Now returning to Los Angeles, Williams aims to become the essential component in a secondary eager for a standout performer at the cornerback position.
