ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — The Denver Broncos have secured the services of seasoned inside linebacker Cody Barton, as confirmed by his agent David Canter in a social media update on Friday evening.
At the age of 27, Barton comes to the Broncos after an impressive stint with the Washington Commanders, where he tallied 121 tackles in the previous season. Prior to that, he achieved a career-best of 136 tackles during his fourth and final season with the Seattle Seahawks in 2022.
Barton’s journey began when he was drafted by the Seahawks in the third round from the University of Utah in 2019. Initially serving as a rotational player, Barton steadily established himself as a reliable presence on the field.
The terms of Barton’s contract with the Broncos consist of a one-year agreement with a base salary of approximately $3.5 million.
His arrival fills the void left by free agent Josey Jewell, who departed for the Carolina Panthers on a three-year, $22.75 million deal after spending six seasons with the Broncos.
