Buck Showalter, the former manager of the New York Mets, is set to make a return to television as an analyst with MLB Network, as reported by The Athletic.
Showalter will be back on the network starting April, marking his return after previously being with them in 2020 and 2021. He brings with him a wealth of experience, having also worked with ESPN and the YES Network for the New York Yankees.
A recipient of the Manager of the Year award four times, Showalter has managed various teams including the Yankees, Arizona Diamondbacks, Texas Rangers, and Baltimore Orioles, before his stint with the Mets in 2022. During his time with the Mets, the team had a remarkable 101-win season, the highest in Showalter’s managerial career.
However, following a disappointing performance by the Mets in 2023, where they finished with a 75-87 record and fourth place in the NL East, Showalter announced in October that he would not be returning to the team.
Despite being considered a finalist for the managerial opening with the Los Angeles Angels, Showalter missed out on the position, as the Angels opted for another former Rangers skipper, Ron Washington.
Additionally, MLB Network recently brought on board former St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright as an on-air analyst in February. The Athletic also noted that Joe Maddon, who has managed the Angels, Tampa Bay Rays, and Chicago Cubs, will continue to make appearances on MLB Now.
